Hikes explore the Echuya Central Forest Reserve. This reserve was rated in the top 10% or of 65 forests in terms of conservation value by in Uganda. Located in the Albertine Rift, a region which includes parts of Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo, the reserve is rich in rare and endemic species. Although there is no large wildlife such as elephants and buffalo in the reserve, horned chameleons, gorgeous birds, monkeys and other wildlife can be found on hikes. We take you to explore the forests, bamboo stands, and swamps. More adventurous hikers can join us to find hidden places in the forest, such as a waterfall where where women who became pregnant before marriage were punished, and secret caves.
In addition we offer activities that provide a fascinating insight into local cultures of the Kigezi region. Come and visit Batwa, Bakiga, and Bafumbira communities. Learn about terrace agriculture, traditional medicine, alcohol production, bee keeping and more. See handicraft makers using bamboo and other plants from the forest to create both essential everyday objects and beautiful art.
