Echuya Eco-tourism Association is a non-profit community organization formed in 2010 to support the people and environment surrounding Echuya Forest. The association is 100% Ugandan and formed of community members from the sub-counties surrounding the forest. After several years of building the organization and some valuable assistance from Nature Uganda and other groups, tourism activities began in late 2015. Some profits from tourism are returned to community members. Other profits are also to be used for food aid, school fees, tree planting on community land, and other projects chosen by the community. The rest is reinvested in the association, for building better accommodations, a restaurant, advertising and other buildings and activities for growth. We believe that people must benefit from and appreciate the forest for conservation succeed.
